Mass Inmate Deaths in Severe Nigerian Prison Heat Wave

O God of Paul and Silas, You are the God who shakes prison foundations, opens locked doors, and breaks every heavy chain (Acts 16:25-26). You are Yahweh Ezri, our Strength and Deliverer, who does not despise the plight of the prisoner nor turn Your ear from the groaning of the captive (Psalm 102:20). How long shall we continue to disobey God, let us turn away from evil ways and seek God’s face together. O Lord, forgive our iniquities because of Your lovingkindness. Look with tender mercies today upon the forgotten, the oppressed, and the suffering inside Nigeria’s detention facilities. Reveal Yourself in the darkest cells as the ultimate Deliverer, Redeemer, and Light in the shadows! Bring divine comfort to the families of the 33 inmates who lost their lives in extreme heat and agony. Expose the truth, execute divine justice, and bring closure to those left behind. Stretch out Your hand over those still enduring inhumane conditions, extreme temperatures, and overcrowding. Supernaturally preserve their physical health. Provide clean water, food, and medical care for their bodies, and nourish their souls with Your Word. Touch the hearts of prison officials to govern with mercy, decency, and the fear of God. Grant wisdom, courage, and integrity to Nigerian authorities, legal advocates, and human rights organizations. Break through bureaucratic neglect, accelerate fair trials for the wrongfully detained, and bring sweeping reform to the correctional system. May the power of Your salvation invade every cell, loosing spiritual and physical chains so that all may know You, worship You, and experience Your redeeming grace. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
