Ruth 1:22 is the Transition to Hope. It closes the first chapter of sorrow and positions the characters for the redemption of chapter two. It reminds us that no matter how dark the road from Moab was, the “House of Bread” (Bethlehem) always has a harvest waiting for those who return. This prayer is your Altar of Anticipation, declaring that your season of lack is ending and your season of harvest is beginning. Naomi and Ruth arrived exactly at the “beginning of barley harvest.” What felt like a journey of grief was perfectly timed by God to arrive at a season of abundance. Trust that God’s timing for your “arrival” is meticulously planned to coincide with His provision. The word “returned” is used repeatedly in this verse. Returning to God’s house (Bethlehem) is never a sign of defeat, even if you return empty-handed. It is the necessary step to enter the field where your future is waiting. Just as the people of Bethlehem could see the harvest was near by the state of the grain, we are called to watch the spiritual signs of the times. Stay fully awake and alert, keeping your heart ready for the King’s return. 

Let’s Pray

O Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I dedicate my life to You as a precious stone in Your sight and a living sacrifice. Though earthly temples may fall, I trust You to uphold me and keep me from being thrown down (Luke 21:5-6). Just as You can raise children for Abraham from the very stones (Matthew 3:9), I ask You to raise me up and establish me in Your divine purpose as I devote all my days to You alone. Lord, just as Naomi and Ruth returned to Bethlehem, I believe that Christ Jesus will soon return to the earth in power and great glory (Matthew 24:30-31). Lord, prepare me and everyone for Your return. While I wait for the signs of Your coming, I plead for a great harvest of lost souls, like the barley harvest at the beginning of Naomi’s journey. I offer You my firstfruits and my increase, looking forward to the new beginning of divine provision and resurrection You have promised. Lord, open my spiritual insight to perceive the timing of Your return so that it does not catch me by surprise. Give me the grace to be always on the watch and pray, and the strength to stand before the Son of Man. I refuse to be found sleeping (Matthew 25:5); instead, I lift up my head with confidence, knowing that my redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:27-28). It is in You, Lord, that I place my hope. Christ, the risen King, will soon rule the earth. He is the coming King. Hallelujah to the Lord of Lords, for Jesus Christ is alive yesterday, today, and forevermore. In the name of the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
