When we submit to God and resist the devil, we must remember that God also resists the proud. Pride is a dangerous obstacle, blocking our ability to follow God’s will and leading to our downfall. As the saying goes, “pride comes before a fall.” Instead of boasting about our strength, we should humble and esteem others above us. This is the path to being lifted up by God’s hand and flourishing in humility. Humility finds no pleasure in ego, for it is rooted in love and obedience to God. 1 Corinthians 13:4 tells us that “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” A prideful heart lacks this love, as love is free from arrogance. It is the humble heart that receives more of God’s grace and is exalted in times of distress. It is the just who will inherit the earth.
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.””
~James 4:6
