Super Typhoon Sinlaku Threatens Northern Mariana Islands with Destructive Winds and Storm Surge

On April 14, 2026, Super Typhoon Sinlaku is bearing down on the Northern Mariana Islands, with the National Weather Service warning that Saipan and nearby islands will be lashed overnight by destructive winds, torrential rain, and life‑threatening storm surge. Local authorities have ordered residents to shelter in place as evacuations to typhoon shelters rise above 300 people, flights are canceled, and around 400 tourists are stranded due to the shutdown of airports and ferry services. Officials warn that Sinlaku’s powerful winds and large waves could cause severe coastal flooding, damage to homes and critical infrastructure, and prolonged power outages across affected islands.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, we lift up the people of the Northern Mariana Islands as Super Typhoon Sinlaku approaches, especially those on Saipan and the smaller islands facing the full force of this storm today. You see every family boarding up their homes, every elderly person or child anxious in a crowded shelter, every worker preparing to remain on duty as the winds rise—have mercy on them, O God. Stretch out Your hand to calm the seas and restrain the destructive power of the wind; protect lives from storm surge, flying debris, and collapsing structures, and grant special protection to those living in fragile homes near the coast. Strengthen emergency managers, weather forecasters, first responders, pastors, and community leaders with wisdom and courage as they issue warnings, coordinate shelters, and plan for rescue and recovery. May Your church across the Marianas be a refuge of peace and practical help—sharing food, opening homes, praying with the fearful, and pointing many to You as their strong tower. Let this crisis become an opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors and for many hearts to turn to You as the One who commands the wind and the waves. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.

And He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
