Psalm 5:9–10 is a warning about the rot of the heart. It shows that when we rebel against God, our very speech becomes destructive. This prayer is your Daily Alignment, ensuring that your inward parts are filled with God’s Spirit rather than destruction, allowing you to walk in the freedom of the righteous. The psalmist warns against a throat that is an “open tomb”. Today, ask yourself: Are my words bringing life to others, or am I burying them with criticism or gossip? Flattery is often used to manipulate. Practice “Plain Speech” today—say what you mean with kindness and without hidden agendas. The wicked fall “by their own counsels”. Before making a decision today, pause and ask for God’s instruction, ensuring you aren’t just following your own rebellious impulses.
Let’s Pray
El Shaddai, all-sufficient God, I come before You today, for I know that You alone are faithful, and Your mercies are renewed every morning. When I falter, You remain steadfast. I bring my repentant heart to You, asking that You would not cast me away despite my failings, but instead meet me with Your great compassion. Lord, I confess that I am often a person of unclean lips living among a people of unclean lips (Isaiah 6:5). Remove from me all flattering words and deceitful speech. As Your word says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21) Create in me a new tongue that speaks only honesty, and impart Your knowledge inside me. Let my throat not be an “open tomb” of destruction, but a spring of life and truth. I plead for Your forgiveness for my numerous transgressions. O Lord, give me wisdom so that I can make wise decisions instead of falling prey to my own counsel. Free me from self-destructive tendencies and from self-condemnation. Teach me to listen to Your counsel so that I may not fall by my own plans or rebel against Your perfect will. I received Your instruction today so that I may grow wise in my later days (Proverbs 19:20). I thank You that there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Fill my heart with Your Holy Spirit, for where Your Spirit is, there is true freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). Build me up and protect me from causing harm to others through my words or actions. I declare Your liberty over my life and choose to love You forever. May the Lord, who cancels our transgressions, be honored and glorified. In the merciful name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

“For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue. Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You.”
