Widespread flooding in Kenya

This wet season in the flood-prone capital of Kenya, Nairobi, has left 50 dead in a flash flood on Monday. This season of widespread flooding attributed to the El Nino phenomenon has left 1200 people dead in total. Poor infrastructure planning and encroached slums have been cited as reasons for the disaster in this city located in a flood delta region. Torrential rains, which began 6 weeks ago, still continue causing rivers to overflow their banks.

Let’s Pray:

Father Lord, we commit the people of Kenya into the safest place – the palm of your hands. Comfort those who have been affected with your unfailing love and compassion. We pray that you will show your mercies to this nation and provide respite from the heavy rains by closing the heavens, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion.”

~Psalm 20:1-2
