Day 5 – How long shall I wait?

In the previous days, we have established that all followers of Christ are waiting on God for something or the other. Maybe you are waiting on God for a dream, a promise, a prophecy, a supplication you have been making unto him, and now you know that what matters most is not to wait for something but for someone: I AM. Yet, an important question remains unanswered: “How long shall I wait, Lord?” Today, we will try to answer this…

Day 6 – Where shall I wait?

When we are about to see a doctor, or in a bus terminal or airport, we will wait in a waiting room. The conditions of the waiting room may differ from one place to another. In the bus stop, it’s good enough if we have a shelter on top of our head. In the airport gate or bus terminal, we can expect to see some chairs and wait while sitting down. When we are about to see a doctor or…

Day 7 – While I’m waiting

Welcome back! This is the last day of this devotional and we are so happy that you stuck with us throughout this journey. In the previous days we discovered why we had to wait, for what and for whom we are waiting, how long and where to wait, and we believe that the Holy Spirit ministered to you during those days and transformed the way you perceive waiting on the Lord. Now that we are more familiar and comfortable with…

Foreword

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified (set apart) and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. – 1 Timothy 2:20-21 -Prayer Spring Team

DAY 1: What does it mean to be a vessel?

A vessel is something that is created for a very specific purpose. We go back to the tabernacle of God, to understand the use of vessels in serving God and how each vessel is unique, but all used in the combined worship and service to Yahweh God. In contrast to the two bronze vessels in the Outer Court, the vessels in the Holy Place were constructed with gold. The Golden Lampstand was made of one solid gold piece, while the…

Day 2 – Why does God want us to be worthy vessels? Holiness!

To be set apart, holy, cleansed, and sanctified We go back to the central verse in 1 Timothy 2:20-21 and understand that to be a vessel first means to be cleansed and sanctified (or set apart) solely for the work of the Lord. A vessel can either be of gold or silver (or) of wood and clay, denoting that which will be burnt by the fire on the day of judgement when everything will be tested by fire. A vessel…

DAY 3: Why does God want us to be worthy vessels? Purpose!

To find’s Gods purpose for our lives and walk in obedience to His will As each vessel has a purpose, we are all unique and precious in God’s eyes. We are a masterpiece of God with a very specific purpose and calling that God has placed in our lives. But this calling is something to be sought after, by us. It is a mystery to us for His name to be glorified in and through His will and purpose. It…

DAY 4: Why does God want us to be worthy vessels? Filling!

To be emptied, so we can be filled by His Spirit A vessel cannot come full or half-empty to the work. We must empty ourselves, our egos, our pride, our self-righteousness, our self-dependency, our arrogance and come completely empty, so that we can be filled by His Holy Spirit and gifts. Often God does this through the painful process of refining us through trials and tribulations. As a true follower of Christ, we must go through sufferings, for without them…

Foreword

What does a soldier, an athlete and a farmer have in common? Well, they are the examples that Paul uses to exhort Timothy to be strong in faith and to continue in the good work in 2 Timothy 2:3-6. This short passage serves as an encouragement and teaches us the core principles of serving God. Timothy, besides his young and inexperienced age, faced many challenges pertaining to false doctrines, false teachers and persecution of the faith. And we all certainly…

Day 1: The soldier

“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” –2 Timothy 2:3-4 NKJV Paul’s use of a soldier as an example is not uncanny, because this exhortation was written at a time he was imprisoned by the Romans (at the onset of the Roman persecution of the early church, which lasted close to…
