Day 13: The bride of Christ

“That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”

Ephesians 5:26-27

Christ has loved us (the church) like a bridegroom loves His bride (Eph 5:25) and His sacrifice on the cross has demonstrated this love. The great hope that this analogy gives me is that Christ yearns to be united with us. It is not just us who are groaning for the Creator, but also the Creator longing to be united with His creation. Christ is even more excited for us to get to know Him intimately and fully than we are. Remember that this life is temporary; all its struggles, temptations, sorrows, sickness, pain, it will all be wiped away one day and all that remains is the perfect joy and the love of knowing our Savior. Remember that Christ has not forgotten us in any way, but as He prepares a place for us in the heavens, He is also preparing us to meet Him (Eph 5:26-27). The more preparation, the more glorious the joy of the reunion will be. Maranatha, come Lord Jesus!

Let’s pray:
Father, thank You for Jesus Christ, our bridegroom, whom You have sent to redeem us to Yourself. Thank You Jesus for loving Your church — the bride — on the cross. Thank You for the glorious day of Your return where we shall be one with You. Prepare us in this world to meet You. Preserve our souls so that the oil in our lamps does not run dry. In Jesus name, amen.
