“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
In the same way a kitchen knife needs to be sharpened after being used for some time, there is the need in a believer’s life to be sharpened constantly by others in Christ. As we live in the world, the culture, norms, sufferings, and deceptions around us will dullen our spirit and make it numb to God’s voice. We live in the danger of backsliding, growing cold in love and justifying our sinful nature if we do not take heed. Belonging to a God-fearing community can help remind and lead us back to Christ and the cross. As disciples, we need to be humble to receive correction and to learn from each other’s experiences in the faith, to grow in Christ (Phil 4:9). We should also be open and vulnerable about our own lives to encourage and edify the body of Christ.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25
Let’s pray:
Father Lord, I thank You for the body of Christ. I thank You for the God-fearing and loving community that You have placed around me. You have asked us to do life together, so that we can pick each other up in our weaknesses. I ask for the humility to receive correction and a teachable heart to learn Your ways from others around me. Also, I ask You to use my life and my testimony to encourage others in Christ for Your glory Lord Jesus, amen.
