We ended yesterday’s devotional with the interesting discovery that the Bible characters we consider as heroes of faith did not merely wait for something, instead they waited for someone. They waited for God to intervene in their situation. Maybe you are thinking to yourself: How can waiting for God help me find a solution to my problem? I need food on my table, a new job/ promotion, a spouse/child/friend, healing, deliverance from an addiction, courage for a fresh start, or simply, the strength to carry on. And to that I would answer: Wait on God.

‘I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” 

-Psalm 121-1:2

Throughout the Bible, God is given many names by His people based on what they experience about Him. In more than 100 different passages, the children of God experienced their Heavenly Father come through for them in challenges they faced alone or as a group/nation. Here are a few examples of the names of God in the bible.

Jehovah Jireh: The LORD our provider (Genesis 22:14) 

Jehovah Rapha: The LORD our Healer (Exodus 15:26) 

Jehovah Shalom: The LORD our Peace (Judges 6:24) 

Jehovah Raah: The LORD our Shepherd (Psalms 23:1) 

Jehovah Tsidkenu: The LORD our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6) 

Jehovah Shammah: The LORD is Here (Ezekiel 48:35) 

El Roi: The God who sees me (Genesis 16:13)

El-Shaddai: God Almighty (Genesis 17:1)

Yahweh-Ghmolah: The God of Recompense (Jeremiah 51:6)

Yahweh-Maccaddeshem: The Lord your sanctifier (Exodus 31:13)

And one last name, which God used to introduce Himself to Moses is “I AM”

“You must say this to the Israelites, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 

-Exodus 3:14

God reveals Himself to His people back then and to you and I today as I AM. This is a promise from God to always be Himself, that is, who we need Him to be in every situation. God says to you: I AM your healer, your provider, your sanctifier and your righteousness. I AM the one who sees you and who rewards you, I AM here with you. Whatever it is that you are waiting for, only I AM can provide, exceedingly abundantly much more than you can ask or imagine. He will not always give you what you ask for, but He will always give you exactly what you need, in abundance.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.” 

-Romans 8:31-33

God demonstrated His immense love for us through Jesus. The great I AM gave up everything, even His own life for us to have everything. Today, remember that the answer to all your needs is Jesus. He is the only One who can answer all Your doubts, fears, questions, and requests, the only One you can rely on and hope for, the only One who can help and satisfy you. 

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

-Psalm 27:1Even if everyone else leaves or betrays us, He will never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). Even if our parents or family abandons us, the Lord will take care of us (Psalm 27:10). He is a Friend that is closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He cannot back off from His promises; what He said He will do (Ezekiel 24:14). Our Good Father knows how to give the best to His children at the best time. And talking about time….how long should we wait? Let’s meet tomorrow and discuss this.

Prayer: 

Father, I am so sorry that I doubt You at times. Sometimes I am lost in the pursuit of other things and take my eyes off You. Forgive me, Father. Bring me back to You. Draw my attention back to You. Let me realise that You are the only One I am seeking for, the One I am waiting for, I am longing for, as no one else and nothing else can replace You in my life. Thank You that You’ll never change. Thank You for being closer than a brother. Thank You for always being with me, never leaving or forsaking me. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
