“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”
– Matthew 8:17
The very assurance of our victory over every sickness lies in our belief upon the above word of God. If we believe that our sins are forgiven when we confess them and place our faith in Jesus (1 John 1:9), then we must walk in the faith that by His wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24). Jesus while referencing salvation from sin uses the example of a physician and a sick man in Luke 5:31-32. Also in 2 Chronicles 7:14, God promises Solomon concerning the nation of Israel, to heal the land. There are 23 instances of Jesus healing the sick recorded in the Gospels and 3 times when He raised people from the dead. All of this offers only a miniscule glimpse into the healing power and ministry of Jesus here on earth as John 21:25 tells us.
Knowing that God’s will has always been to heal the sick as demonstrated throughout the Scriptures, even in the old testament (1 Kings 17:22-23, 2 Kings 5:14, 2 Kings 20:5), it is errant to say God sends sickness upon us. Rather, sickness and suffering result from the fallen nature of all mankind as Romans 8:21 says, because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Corruption here means decay and this is what brings the groaning and travailing as v22 further goes on to say. As believers though, we are delivered from this bondage and we are called to lift others out from this bondage as well. We are called to live in liberty, because Jesus has already bore every nameable and unnameable sickness on the cross, as Matthew 8:17 alludes to. Let us not be fooled that sickness is from God, and continue to remain in the bondage of sickness. The way to victory is the cross and Jesus’ stripes, do not let it go in vain in your life today. First, repent, then proclaim it in faith and God shall give you the healing victory you seek in Him.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
-Isaiah 53:5
Let’s pray:
Father, I thank You for it is Your will for me to be at liberty from every sickness that plagues me right now. I come in Jesus’ name, for He has borne every sickness and infirmity upon Himself on the cross. I proclaim that by Your stripes I am healed in faith. Thank You for making me whole again, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
