Overnight flash floods swept through Nairobi after intense rains, killing at least 10 people and leaving others missing as cars were carried away and homes were inundated in low-lying neighborhoods. Floodwaters forced the temporary closure of parts of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, disrupting flights at East Africa’s busiest hub and hampering emergency and commercial movements. Authorities and aid workers are now racing to clear debris, restore basic services, and assist families whose houses, belongings, and livelihoods were damaged or destroyed by the sudden deluge.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, we lift up the people of Nairobi who have been struck by these sudden floods and are grieving, displaced, or trying to salvage what little they have left. You see every family mourning a loved one, every person searching muddy streets for missing relatives, and every household facing the loss of shelter and livelihood—have mercy on them, O God. Strengthen emergency crews, church communities, and local neighbors as they rescue, clean up, and provide food, clothing, and safe places to stay. Protect those who remain in flood-prone areas from further danger, and grant wisdom to city leaders as they repair infrastructure and plan for safer drainage and housing. May many in Kenya encounter You as their refuge and helper in trouble, and may Your comfort, peace, and provision be evident in the midst of this crisis. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.
