From Preaching to Persecution: The Tragic Betrayal of Woro and Nuku in Nigeria!

In a horrific act of revenge and religious extremism, more than 100 armed jihadists—suspected to be from a Boko Haram splinter group—massacred at least 75 people in the villages of Woro and Nuku in Nigeria’s Kwara state.

Key details from the report:

The Aftermath: Mass burials have left the community physically and emotionally broken. President Tinubu has since approved the deployment of an army battalion to the region to address the “stunning security failure.”

The Motive: The attack was triggered by the community’s refusal to accept the militants’ extremist version of Islam. Residents had previously resisted recruitment efforts and reported threatening letters to the authorities.

The Violence: Attackers targeted the home of traditional leader Umar Bio Salihu, killing two of his children (medical students) before embarking on an all-night killing spree. Victims were found tied up, shot, or with their throats slit.

Abductions: As they retreated, the militants kidnapped 38 women and children, including the wife and children of the traditional ruler.

Security Failure: Despite warnings and a brief military investigation days prior, the village was left unprotected. The militants occupied the area for hours, even stopping to pray in the local mosque, before security forces arrived the following day to find the villages in ruins.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father, You are the God who neither sleeps nor slumbers. We come before You with heavy hearts, beholding the devastation in Northern Nigeria. We lay before You the villages of Woro and Nuku—places now filled with the smoke of ruins and the cries of the grieving. Lord, the burden of persecution and terror has become unbearable. O Lord, we cry out for Your deliverance, we lift up the families of those massacred and the medical students whose lives were cut short. Embrace those who have lost their loved ones in this battle with Your compassion and supernatural comfort. Strengthen the brokenhearted and restore hope through Your grace. We pray for the 38 women and children taken into the forest. Lord, You are the Great Deliverer; we ask for their safety and their swift, miraculous return to their families. We remember Your Word: “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” (Psalm 127:1). We ask for Your protection over the land. Rebuild this nation, O God, and secure the borders against the spirit of horror. Lord, we pray for the hearts of the armed men; cause these militants to lay down their weapons and surrender to Your authority. We ask that You would remove the veil from their eyes, that they might see the truth and bear witness to Your salvation. Educate them in Your knowledge; reveal to them what is truly right and just. Turn them from their wicked deeds to a path of repentance, that they may seek Your Kingdom—the Kingdom of peace, love, and righteousness. Let Your mercy be at work to protect the land from evil and to heal the wounds of the people. May Your name be honored and blessed forever and ever. In Christ Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.” ‭‭
