Houthi Rebels Launch First Missile Strike on Israel Amid Regional War

On March 28, 2026, Yemen’s Houthi rebels officially entered the ongoing regional conflict by claiming responsibility for a ballistic missile attack targeting southern Israel. This marks the group’s first direct strike since the escalation of the U.S.-Israel war against Iran began earlier this month. The Houthi movement, which has remained largely on the sidelines during the first few weeks of the current war, has now signaled a significant shift in its military posture. Houthi military spokesman Brigadier-General Yahya Saree announced that the group fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at “sensitive military sites” in southern Israel. Air raid sirens were triggered in Beer Sheba and near Israel’s main nuclear research center. The Israeli military confirmed that it intercepted the incoming fire, and no immediate casualties were reported from this specific barrage. Saree stated that these operations will continue until “the aggression against all fronts of the resistance ceases.” This follows a vague warning issued on Friday that the group’s “fingers were on the trigger.” The Houthis, who control the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, previously disrupted global trade by attacking over 100 merchant vessels in the Red Sea between 2023 and 2025. Their entry into the current war adds a new layer of complexity to an already volatile regional battlefield involving Iran and Hezbollah.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Lord, You are gracious and full of mercy. We hallow Your name over the Middle East today. We stand against the power of the enemy who seeks only to kill, destroy, and plunder what is not his (John 10:10). Lord, we bring the expanding borders of this conflict before Your throne, specifically the people of Yemen and Israel who are once again trapped in the path of missiles and sirens. O God, break the bow of the adversary and shatter their spears. Shorten the reach of every weapon and burn the “chariots” of modern warfare with Your holy fire (Psalm 46:9). We ask for a “divine intervention” in the plans of the enemy. Hand-cuff the spirits of violence and restrain the hands of those who seek to widen this war into a global calamity. Move the hearts of those in power away from the “trigger.” Grant the leaders of Israel, Iran, and Yemen a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26) and the Fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of all wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Lead them toward the path of de-escalation. Lord, You are good to all and have compassion on all You have made (Psalm 145:9). Be a shield for the families in Beer Sheba and the civilians in Yemen. Guard their hearts with Your peace—a peace that surpasses all human understanding (Philippians 4:7). Lord of Salvation, take full control of both the spiritual and physical realms. Let Israel be saved, and let the people of Iran and Yemen see the glory and salvation of the Lord. Let Your mercy rise over the just and the unjust alike, stopping the violence in our land once and for all. May Your kingdom come to pass and Your will be done. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen.

“He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire.”

Psalm 46:9 NKJV
