Magnesium: Can this ‘miracle mineral’ really help us sleep?

The popularity of magnesium supplements, particularly for the alleviation of insomnia, issues related to digestion, and psychological health, has catapulted their market to almost £3 billion by 2025, expected to grow rapidly. However, given the influencer-led trends and popular notions for different magnesium supplements for various health benefits, it has been argued that healthy individuals who are not magnesium-deficient, a judgment that is difficult to assess, may not particularly benefit from magnesium supplements since it is found abundantly in various foods, for example, seeds, nuts, and leafy greens. Individuals complaining of insomnia, for example, or psychological problems, including anxiety, may claim to benefit from certain magnesium supplements, though their benefits remain questionable from a biological perspective. Taking too much magnesium has several health complications, including health problems for renal patients.

Let’s Pray:

Dear God, thank you for providing the world with supplements like magnesium that bring health and strength to our bodies. Thank you for giving care to our bodies along with our spirits. We pray that Your holy miraculous power be bestowed upon magnesium and every other supplement to restore and heal all of those who are consuming these supplements. In Jesus’ name, let there be no harmful side effects that may cause harm to people’s bodies. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

“For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”
