O LORD, Satisfy My Soul With True Contentment!

Habakkuk 2:5 describes a person who is “drunk” on pride and whose desires are as insatiable as death. It’s a picture of a restless soul that can never find peace “at home.” This prayer offers the perfect Counter-Culture. By asking for the “New Wine” and for MERCY just like the thief on the cross, you are choosing Humility over Accumulation. You are recognizing that the “deepest hunger” isn’t for more nations or more things, but for the presence of the One who says, “Today, you will be with Me.” (Luke 23:43) Contentment is the ultimate shield against the “transgressions” mentioned in this verse.

Let’s Pray

My Lord and my God, do not turn Your face from me. I no longer wish to sustain myself on the “old wine” of this world—unsatisfyingly with bitterness, pride, and emptiness. Instead, make me a vessel for Your New Wine, pure and life-giving (Luke 5:37-38). I lay down my cravings and burdens at Your feet, asking You to deliver me from greed and the restless pride that refuses to stay at home. Lord, guard my heart from desires that lead to ruin. Do not let my life be like the grave—never satisfied and always hungry for more. Instead, fill me with a spirit of contentment. Grant me the grace to focus on things above rather than the fleeting vanities of this world. You alone can satisfy my heart’s deepest hunger. Like the thief on the cross, I acknowledge my mistakes and cry out, “Jesus, remember me.” (Luke 23:42) Pour Your endless mercy over me. Take away the pressure, anxiety, and worry about the future that keep me from finding peace. Holy Spirit, my Comforter, soothe my soul and cleanse me with Your Word so that I may be made whole. Set me apart as Your own—the apple of Your eye and an heir to Your promises. Help me to take up my cross and follow You wholeheartedly, living fully in Your joy and peace. O LORD, You have satisfied my soul. May all glory and honor be Yours, now and forever, my LORD and my God. In the glorious name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

“Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man, And he does not stay at home. Because he enlarges his desire as hell, And he is like death, and cannot be satisfied, He gathers to himself all nations And heaps up for himself all peoples.” ‭‭
