Devastating Floods and Landslides along the Nepal-Tibet Border

The BBC article reports on catastrophic flooding and massive landslides along the mountainous border region between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region, triggering a massive humanitarian search-and-rescue operation. Relentless torrential downpours have triggered flash floods and slope collapses, devastating remote alpine communities and cutting off vital border infrastructure. Hundreds of people are feared dead or missing following overnight torrents that swept through high-altitude settlements, washing away homes, temporary shelters, and entire stretches of road. Swollen glacial rivers and mudslides destroyed critical bridges connecting Nepal and Tibet, stranding border trade convoys, local villagers, and trekking groups across difficult terrain. Power grids and cellular towers across the border zone are heavily damaged, leaving dozens of remote mountain hamlets completely isolated without direct contact with emergency response centers. Rescue workers, military personnel, and local volunteers face immense hurdles due to ongoing heavy rainfall, continuous secondary landslides, and blocked access roads, forcing teams to rely on limited aerial helicopter operations. 

Let’s Pray:

Almighty God, merciful Father and Creator of the dry land and the seas, You formed all things by the power of Your spoken word. We stand in the gap for the communities, villagers, and rescuers along the Nepal-Tibet border following these devastating floods and landslides. O Lord, remember Your covenant made with Noah—Your promise that the waters would never again be allowed to cut off all life (Genesis 9:11). Look upon the sign of Your rainbow in the clouds, show Your great compassion, and save Your special people! Over the land and the floods, You are God. Therefore, everything is under Your control. Speak forth Your authoritative word into these floodwaters, just as You commanded the storm to be still (Mark 4:39). Send forth fire from heaven to consume the floods and dry up the waters, O LORD! (1 Kings 18:38) We ask for Your supernatural shield over every soul buried beneath mud or stranded in debris. Save Your People with Your outstretched arm, like You did with the Israelites when You brought them out of Egypt. Guide search-and-rescue teams directly to survivors. Grant rescuers physical endurance, safety, and swift clear skies for life-saving helicopter operations. From heaven above, look upon the hundreds of families who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in a single night. Warm those exposed to the harsh mountain cold, calm their fears, and provide immediate shelter, clean water, and divine comfort. Command the swelling rivers to recede and the crumbling slopes to settle. Lord, give wisdom and strength to emergency crews as they restore communications, clear mountain passes, and deliver urgent aid to isolated hamlets. O God, as You delivered the people, we pray for the salvation of souls today. Show Yourself merciful in this troubled hour, Father Lord, and let every soul see Your saving power. We trust in You alone, for You are mighty to redeem. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
