Rape as a war weapon in Ethiopia

Although the agreement to end the civil war between Eritrea and Ethiopia was signed last November, 128 cases of rape were reported in Tigray, with the age of the victims ranged between 8years and 69years. Three-quarter of them were of gang rapes, with almost all (96%) of the perpetrators belonging to the military or paramilitary groups. In many cases, women could access healthcare only months after the violence occurred and had serious complications resulting from the attacks. The report listed post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, incontinence, uterine bleeding and chronic pelvic pain. In multiple cases, the rape resulted in pregnancy or in the woman contracting HIV.

Let’s Pray:

Father, we ask for Your mercy for the women in Ethiopia. You see how they have been abused and violated, and have to suffer the consequences. You said that vengeance is Yours and You will repay everyone according to their deeds. We pray that you will defend their case and avenge them, Abba Father. We pray that You will restore what has been stolen from them, and heal them completely from any consequence they suffer. Show them how much You love and care for them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’ “For the Lord will judge His people And have compassion on His servants, When He sees that their power is gone, And there is no one remaining, bond or free.”

Deuteronomy 32:35-36
