Ruth 3:18 is The Threshold of Final Resolution. It marks the transition from Ruth’s active submission to complete, surrendered waiting. Ruth’s work in Chapter 3 was finished; now it was time for her Redeemer to settle the legal rights at the city gate. This prayer is your Altar of Perfect Peace, choosing to quiet your heart, step back from anxiety, and let your Heavenly Redeemer finish what He started in your life. Naomi’s advice was clear: “Sit still… until you know.” After you have prayed, followed godly counsel, and positioned yourself at the feet of Jesus, any further striving is driven by fear, not faith. Sitting still is not laziness; it is the highest form of spiritual trust. Notice the double dynamic of verse 18: Ruth was told to sit still, because Boaz would not rest. Your stillness in prayer does not mean nothing is happening; it means you have handed the workload over to Jesus, who works tirelessly on your behalf while you rest in Him. Boaz was a man of action who refused to leave things unresolved. Jesus is an even greater Redeemer who never leaves a good work unfinished. When you commit your cause to Him, you can be fully confident that He will carry it through to total completion (Philippians 1:6).
Let’s Pray
My Father, my Father, Mighty Defender and faithful God! You sit enthroned on high, lifting the poor from the dust and seating the needy with princes (Psalm 113:5-9). At Your Word, I choose to be still and know that You are God (Psalm 46:10). I release my anxiety, my frantic striving, and my need to control the outcome. Just as Naomi told Ruth, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out,” I quiet my soul today. I trust that You hold the hearts of kings in Your hand, turning them like streams of water (Proverbs 21:1), and that no opposition can thwart Your sovereign purpose for my life (Job 42:1-2). Lord Jesus, thank You that while I am sitting still in faith, You are actively working on my behalf. Just as Boaz would not rest until he had settled the matter, I believe You will not rest until You have brought Your promises for my life to complete fulfillment. Stand in the midst of my circumstances and speak Your powerful word: “Peace, be still!” (Mark 4:39) Silence every storm of fear, quiet every accusation, and grant me the deep, unwavering rest that comes from knowing my case is in the hands of the ultimate Judge and my Redeemer. Father, I stand firm upon the promise given to Israel: “Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13). The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14) Like Mordecai whose faithfulness was remembered in the night, (Esther 6:1-6) I trust that You are orchestrating honor, justice, and breakthrough for me behind the scenes. From the rising of the sun to its setting, Your name is to be praised (Psalm 113). I wait with quiet hope, confident that I will see Your glory and goodness in the land of the living. I sit still in faith, guard my peace, O God. I trust my Redeemer to complete the work today. My Lord said on the cross, “It is finished! ” (John 19:30). In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
