Revenge won’t help you heal, Forgiveness will!

Have you ever been hurt by someone? No matter whether the abuse was physical or emotional, feeling hurt is one of the worst feelings a person can have, and the logical response to this is usually revenge. ‘An eye for an eye’; ‘You hurt me so I must hurt you too’. Though this seems logical, it is highly irrational. Think about it for a second: hurting the person who hurt you does not make your pain go away! Now there are just more people hurting. There is only one solution to alleviate that pain and free you from this horrible feeling: forgiveness. God asks us to forgive all those who wronged us and treated us badly, no matter whether they apologize or not. He says we should do that for two main reasons. The first is that He did the same for us. We rejected Him and His law, crucified His only begotten son and preferred darkness to His light yet He forgave us. We should therefore forgive, as He forgave us because He showed us the right example and gave us His Spirit to empower us to do so. The second reason is that forgiveness gives US healing. Revenge focuses on trying to make the other person suffer, but forgiveness focuses on helping us to heal from our wounds. Choose to forgive today; for God’s sake – obedience to His word, and for your sake – personal restoration and healing. You can do this for you can do all things by He who strengthens you! Stay blessed!

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

~‭‭Philippians 4: 13
