Psalm 5:3–4 is a Vow of First Fruits. It is the decision to give God the first voice he hears and the first gaze of your eyes. By acknowledging His holiness early, you are setting a boundary for your behavior throughout the rest of the day. This prayer is your Morning Foundation, ensuring that you are built on righteousness before the “east winds” of the world begin to blow. Because God takes no pleasure in wickedness, our morning prayer acts as a “spiritual filter.” It’s the moment we ask God to remove anything from our hearts that would prevent us from dwelling with Him today. After praying, the psalmist says, “I will look up” (or “wait expectantly”). Prayer isn’t a monologue; it’s a meeting. After you speak, stay in a posture of looking for His response throughout your day.
Let’s Pray
Sovereign Lord, I seek You early this morning, directing my voice and my worship to You alone. I look up to You, the source of my life, trusting that You hear my prayers before I even speak a word. Thank You for supplying my daily needs and for the privilege of standing in Your presence at the break of day. I ask You to refresh me and strengthen me throughout the day. Please grant me the grace to overcome today’s challenges. Holy Lord, Your eyes are too pure to behold evil (Habakkuk 1:13). I ask You to search my heart today; if You find any wickedness within me, cut it away and redirect my path to You. I surrender my ways to You, longing for a pure heart that desires only Your word. Clear my heart and my mind of every negative thought and lead me along the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Father, grant me the strength to repay no one evil for evil. Instead, empower me to overcome evil with good, that Your name may be glorified through my actions (Romans 12:17). Rebuke the schemes of the enemy away from my family and me. Help me not to grow weary in doing good, but to remain steadfast in truth, knowing that in due time I will reap a harvest of blessings if I do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Bless my morning and my evening, O Lord, and keep me as I walk with You. I delight in Your presence, for great is Your faithfulness, O Lord my God. In the glorious name of my Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You.”
