Turning the World Right-Side Up

Turning the World Right-Side Up: Proclaiming King Jesus and Knowing the True God

The True Agents of Transformation

In a broken world where evil and corruption attempt to turn God’s creation upside down, God calls His believers to bring His light, justice, and truth into the darkness.

When Paul and Silas preached the Gospel in Thessalonica, the opposition grew frantic because they recognized the radical, transformative power of the Kingdom of God:

“…they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, ‘These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.’” — Acts 17:6

What the world called “turning things upside down” was actually turning the world right-side up—restoring divine order, righteousness, and hope under the NAME of a superior Ruler, Jesus.

1. The Kingdom of God vs. Modern Cultural Shakeups

Today, we see wars, violent protests, and ungodly legislation sweeping across nations—all aiming to turn the world upside down. Whatever God has not commanded and whatever does not align with His holy WORD is evil; it brings harm to God’s people, breeds destruction, and shatters peace and unity.

In Acts 17:6, the worldly authorities accused the apostles of “turning the world upside down.” In reality, the world was already turned upside down by human sin, rebellion, and oppressive systems.

While man’s wars and unrighteous laws attempt to remake society through force and chaos, the Kingdom of God restores true order, righteousness, and unshakeable peace. When believers stand on God’s Word, we counter the destructive chaos of this world with the unifying truth of the Gospel.

2. There Is Another King: Jesus Christ

The core charge against the early believers was their unyielding loyalty to a higher authority:

“…and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king—Jesus.” — Acts 17:7

While earthly rulers, systems, and empires make decrees, there is a Great King above all kings—Jesus Christ. Though unseen to the natural eye, His sovereignty is made visible through His wonders, miracles, healing, and redeemed lives. When you declare Jesus as your King and Lord, you operate under a higher law of love, faith, and divine victory that no earthly power can overthrow.

3. The Berean Posture: Searching the Scriptures Daily

In an era filled with false prophets, deceptive narratives, and superficial doctrines, how do we guard our faith? The believers in Berea give us the ideal model:

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether things were so.” — Acts 17:11

=

Unwavering Faith & Freedom from Deception

True spiritual maturity requires both a receptive heart and a searching mind. Do not accept every teaching, prophecy, or sermon blindly. Test every message against the firm standard of God’s written Word daily!

4. From the “Unknown God” to Intimate Fellowship

When Paul stood on the Areopagus in Athens, he noticed an altar dedicated “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD” (Acts 17:23). The Athenians were religious, yet spiritually distant—worshiping what they did not truly know.

Paul corrected them with timeless truth:

“…the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” — Acts 17:23–24

“For in Him we live and move and have our being…” — Acts 17:28

God does not want cold religion or ritualistic distance; He desires intimate fellowship. You were made by Him, and in Him your life finds its true rhythm, purpose, and existence. Stop worshiping from afar—cultivate a sacred, daily relationship with the living God in spirit and in truth.

5. True Worshipers: Moving from Ignorance to Spirit and Truth

In Acts 17:23, Paul found an altar inscribed “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” Centuries earlier, Jesus confronted this exact same spiritual condition in John 4:22, telling the Samaritan woman: “You worship what you do not know.”

Many people go through the motions of religion, bound to specific places, traditions, or habits, without ever cultivating a living relationship with the Father. But Jesus revealed the heart of God:

  • God is Spirit: He is not confined to physical temples or mountains (Acts 17:24; John 4:21).
  • God seeks True Worshipers: He desires those who engage Him with sincerity of heart (spirit) and according to divine reality (truth) (John 4:23–24).

[ THE EVOLUTION OF WORSHIP ]

RELIGIOUS RITUAL                  TRUE WORSHIP

“To the Unknown God”    —>      In Spirit and Truth

(Acts 17:23)                      (John 4:23-24)

Bound by Places/Mountains         Sincere, Intimate, Spirit-Led

True worship is not about where you bow, but Whom you know and how you live before Him.

Restoring True Worship and Divine Order

We are not called to bow before an “unknown God” or follow empty religious rituals. As we declare King Jesus over our lives, examine the Scriptures daily like the Bereans, and yield to the Holy Spirit, we turn our world right-side up. Step into the presence of the Father today—not from a distance, but in spirit and in truth—knowing that in Him, you live, move, and have your very being (Acts 17:28; John 4:23–24).

Prayer:

O Sovereign Lord, Creator of Heaven and Earth, You are the King above all kings, the One in whom I live, move, and have my very being (Acts 17:28). Give me the courage to stand as a light in this generation, proclaiming the lordship of Jesus Christ without fear. Grant me a fair-minded, Berean heart to search Your Scriptures daily, so that I may grow in truth and remain unshakeable against all deception (Acts 17:11). Deliver me from distant religion, and draw me into deep, sacred fellowship with You every day. Turn my life right-side up for Your glory! In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” ‭‭

‭‭— John 3:17 ‭NKJV
