A City in Mourning: Eight Children Killed in ‘Worst Tragedy’ in Shreveport History

The city of Shreveport, Louisiana, is in mourning after a horrific spree of domestic violence on April 19, 2026, that claimed the lives of eight children. Local authorities are calling it perhaps the worst tragedy in the city’s history. What began as a domestic disturbance in the early morning hours evolved into a multi-location tragedy and a police pursuit. Eight children, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old, were killed. Two other individuals were injured. Police confirmed that all of the deceased in this case are juveniles, some of whom were related to the gunman. The shootings occurred around 5:00 AM local time across three different locations—two residences on the same block and a third in a nearby part of the neighborhood. After the shootings, the gunman carjacked a vehicle to flee the scene. Following a police pursuit into a different neighborhood, officers engaged the suspect; he was shot and killed by police. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux expressed the profound grief of the community, stating, “We have hurting families, we have hurting police officers… this affects the entire community.”

Let’s Pray:

Abba Father, You are gracious and merciful to all, and Your face shines toward the children of the world. You are the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek after the one; You are a good God, and there is no Father who cares for His children as You do. Lord, our hearts are heavy, and our spirits are broken for the families in Shreveport today. Behold from heaven above as we mourn with a community that has been shattered by violence beyond words. We stand with them in prayer for the parents, siblings, and relatives of these eight young lives taken too soon. Be near to them, O Lord. You are the Man of Sorrows, acquainted with our grief. Wrap these families in the comfort and peace that the world cannot give. Provide each one with strength and a support system that will carry them through this hour of tribulation and sustain them in the days, months, and years to come. We commit the police officers, coroners, and medical personnel who arrived at these scenes into Your hands, O God. Protect their minds and hearts from the trauma they witnessed. Grant them Your grace and the love to continue serving in the wake of such darkness. Lord, we pray for the city of Shreveport. Your Word says, “Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” Watch over every household, shield them with the shadow of Your wings, and keep them from the evil one. May this tragedy not lead to despair, but bring about a profound unity in this city. We ask that You would send forth Your angels—Your heavenly armies—to safeguard, watch, and protect the environment. It is well known that our enemy, the devil, stalks around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. O LORD, make Shreveport a haven for everyone who dwells there. Let love and compassion fill the hearts of all the neighbors, that they may truly love one another as themselves. Let Your light shine in the darkest corners of this neighborhood, and let Your peace settle over every street. In the name of Jesus, the One who took the children into His arms and blessed them, Amen.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
