As of April 16, 2026, sustained heavy rains across parts of East Africa have caused serious flooding and landslides in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and southern Ghana, damaging homes, cropland, and key roads, and putting vulnerable communities at risk. Humanitarian monitors report that some areas remain waterlogged from earlier storms while new downpours are forecast, raising fears of further displacement, crop losses, and outbreaks of waterborne disease in already fragile contexts. The latest global hazards bulletin warns that above‑normal rainfall in the coming days could trigger additional flooding in parts of Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, and South Africa, compounding existing hardship for families who depend on small farms and informal work to survive.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, we lift before You the nations of East and Southern Africa facing these ongoing floods and landslides—especially the families in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and Ghana whose homes, fields, and roads have been damaged or destroyed. You see every parent watching floodwaters creep toward their house, every farmer standing in ruined crops, and every child walking through muddy paths to fetch unsafe water—have mercy on them, O God. Stretch out Your hand to protect those in low‑lying and landslide‑prone areas; limit the damage from further rains, stabilize vulnerable hillsides, and preserve lives where rivers are close to overflowing. Strengthen local authorities, churches, and humanitarian workers as they evacuate at‑risk communities, repair roads and bridges, and distribute food, clean water, and shelter; give them wisdom, endurance, and unity in the face of limited resources. We ask that this season of danger would also become a season of grace: move leaders to invest in safer housing and flood defenses, stir Your church to sacrificial generosity and bold prayer, and draw many hearts to trust You as their refuge and provider even when the waters rise. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.
