Clashes between Pakistani and Afghan border forces have escalated into days of shelling along multiple points of their shared frontier, forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee their homes. The UN reports that more than 115,000 people have been displaced inside Afghanistan and around 3,000 inside Pakistan in the past week, as artillery and drone strikes hit border posts and nearby communities, including during evening Ramadan meals. With no negotiations scheduled and both sides vowing to continue operations, families sheltering in makeshift camps and host communities face growing shortages of food, water, and medical care.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, we lift before You the people living along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border who are caught in the crossfire of this escalating conflict. You see every family forced to flee under shelling, every child terrified by explosions, and every person who has left behind home, land, and livelihood—have mercy on them, O God. Protect civilians on both sides of the border; provide safe shelter, food, clean water, and medical care for all who have been displaced, and strengthen local communities and aid workers who are receiving them. Move the hearts of leaders in Pakistan and Afghanistan to choose dialogue over escalation, and open a path for a ceasefire and meaningful negotiations that honor the dignity and safety of their people. May Your church and Your people in both countries be instruments of peace, comfort, and practical help, and may many come to know You as their Refuge and Prince of Peace. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.
