Coup in Niger

Niger had a military coup on July 26 to overthrow the president. Many reasons were mentioned for the coup; among them unstable political situation, increasing poverty, drought leading to failing harvest, conflicts in the area that have killed over 1000 people and displaced 2.8 million others. Mediation efforts are ongoing but intervention from other countries with different agendas may confound the outcomes.

Let’s Pray:

Father, we lift up Niger into Your hands. You see the suffering of the people, as well as how some parties try to get benefits from this situation. We pray for Your intervention upon the whole matter. We pray for peace and rest for the people; let them find their refuge and joy in You. Take care of their needs, O Lord, and save them from their enemies who try to use them. May Your will alone be done, for You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

“For He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper. He will spare the poor and needy, And will save the souls of the needy. He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; And precious shall be their blood in His sight.”

~Psalms‬ ‭72‬:‭12‬-‭14
