Tropical Cyclone Gezani made landfall in eastern Madagascar with winds over 190 km/h, tearing off roofs, toppling power lines, and causing severe flooding and landslides in one of the world’s poorest nations. At least nine people have been reported dead and many more injured after homes and buildings collapsed, while hundreds of thousands remain at risk as the storm tracks across the island just days after Cyclone Fytia killed at least 12 people and displaced over 31,000. Authorities have issued red alerts for multiple regions amid extensive damage to homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and rice fields, heightening fears of hunger, water contamination, and disease outbreaks.

Father of mercies, You speak to the wind and the waves, and they obey Your voice. Today we lift up Madagascar, an already fragile nation now struck by yet another “monstrous” storm in such a short span of time. Look with compassion on families who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in Cyclone Gezani and in the earlier Cyclone Fytia; comfort those who mourn and strengthen the injured and afraid. We ask that You protect those still in the storm’s path—especially children, the elderly, the poor, and those living in unsafe structures—and provide shelter, clean water, food, and medical care for all in need. Stir the hearts of local churches, believers, and international responders to act quickly with wisdom and generosity, so that practical help flows like a river and Your love is made visible in every act of service. We pray also for the leaders of Madagascar: grant them clarity, integrity, and courage to coordinate relief, rebuild essential infrastructure, and steward resources justly in a time of great strain. Lord Jesus, calm the physical storms over this island and the spiritual storms in people’s hearts; turn many to seek refuge in You, our Rock and our Redeemer. In Your mighty name we pray, Amen.
