Day 2 – The need for deliverance

Science and technology have advanced so much in the world today. Many problems can be detected and identified quickly, and some issues can be resolved with an instant click. Despite all this modernization, why don’t we see less suffering? Why are people dying of hunger, sickness? Why do problems seem to be more complex today than ever before? We need to realize that despite all the progress made, most of the problems in this world stem from human wickedness and disobedience to God. Evil exists and continuously tries to steal, kill, and destroy, and only God is able to deliver us from all things. That is why no matter how advanced science and technology get, we will never be able to find a drug to heal from child abuse, or an artificial intelligence to solve the problem of loneliness. For that we need supernatural power. We need the Almighty God (Luke 18:27).

Deliverance, liberty, or release are used in the various translations of the theme verse found in Luke 4:18, in the Greek text it is Aphesis, which means to release from bondage. While there are several things that can hold us in bondage, we have to know we all need to be set free from the vice of sin first and foremost. Salvation in Christ Jesus is necessary to experience the deliverance from the worst slavemaster -sin- for from it stems all the other forms of bondage. That being said, Jesus wants to give us life to the fullest (John 10:10), meaning that not only is He sanctifying us, He is also breaking us free from everything preventing us from living the blessed life He has called us to. This includes deliverance from fear, grief, addictions of all kinds, financial struggles, status quo and stagnation in various life spheres, soul ties, sickness, barrenness, loneliness etc.  In order to experience God’s wonderful power, one must first recognize what their need is and in which area they would like God’s help. Jesus asked a blind man in Mark 10:51“What do you want Me to do for you?” And The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Just as Jesus answered the prayer of this blind beggar, He can answer yours too. Today, ask God to open your eyes to your own captivity and fill you with the assurance that He can set you free! Believe that the things science can’t achieve can be attained with God.

Let’s pray:
Merciful Lord, You are the all-knowing and powerful God, the power to deliver and the might to save come from You alone. Holy Spirit, show me the areas in which I need deliverance and the root or cause of the problems in my life. Not only that; also deliver me from my troubles and help me to overcome the things that have been tormenting me from within for years. Lord, keep me and be with me whenever I am going through a storm. Lord, take my heavy yoke and turn it around for Your glory. Lord Jesus, with Your miraculous power that opened the eyes of the blind man, heal me and perform amazing miracles in my life, that all might see and give the highest praise to Your holy name now and forevermore. Amen.
