Day 5 – Carry each other’s burdens

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls  and has no one to help them up. Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

– Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12

A godly community is a gift and blessing from God. Being surrounded by faithful christians is God’s desire for all of His children; to belong to one body and serve one another with love, patience and compassion. Therefore, though we understand that deliverance comes from God alone and we ought to pray for ourselves, being prayed for by other believers rooted in Christ will make a significant difference. The Bible puts it like this: “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 5:16

Maybe you have some christian friends, attend a local church or even help out in your church, but you do not have a circle with whom you “do live” with. God wants us to see christian fellowship as being more than listening to sermons and having corporate worship and prayer times. He wants us to have a genuine christian circle – a person or small group of people to whom you can open and receive help from. This requires a lot of discernment (to find the right people not based on the outward appearance but on the guidance of the Holy Spirit), humility (to recognize that God can use others to help you), transparency (to open up in all honesty about the areas in which you need deliverance) and vulnerability (to trust in that person’s integrity, compassion and love for you). Therefore today, ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to the right people who will not only agree with you in prayer but also intercede for you even when you are not able to pray for yourself. It can be the pastor, the random brother who always asks how you are doing after service, or the elderly lady who usually sits at the back and smiles at you on your way out. God can use anyone for He knows everyone’s heart !

Let’s pray:
Father, I know You can speak and answer our requests through the prayer of faith offered to You by believers, including my daily supplication. Lord, let Your Holy Spirit lead me in prayer and guide me to the righteous people that You have appointed, anointed, and ordained, with whom I will “do live” with. Lord, you know I have been betrayed in the past and have a hard time being vulnerable; Please heal my heart and help me trust again. Thank You that whenever I am in need of guidance, revelation and deliverance, I have people to share my burden with. Thank you that I can help lighten the burden of others and show them Your love through my prayers and actions. Lord God, You are worthy to receive all the glory, praise, honor and power! Let Your name be praised on my lips forevermore. Amen.
