Deadly Floods Displace Tens of Thousands in Dominican Republic

On April 15, 2026, authorities in the Dominican Republic reported that days of heavy rains linked to a low‑pressure system have killed at least four people, including one child, and forced more than 30,000 residents to evacuate their homes due to severe flooding. Over 6,000 houses have been damaged, drinking water has been cut off for more than one million people, and 28 localities have been left isolated, prompting the government to place 28 out of 32 provinces on alert. Civil defense teams and emergency services are struggling to reach some of the worst‑hit communities, where overflowing rivers and landslides have washed out roads and bridges.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, we lift up the people of the Dominican Republic who are suffering today from these devastating floods—especially the families mourning loved ones and the tens of thousands who have been forced to flee their homes. You see every child carried through rising waters, every elderly person waiting in a crowded shelter, and every community cut off by washed‑out roads—have mercy on them, O God. Stretch out Your hand to protect those still in danger from overflowing rivers, unstable hillsides, and contaminated water; give strength, wisdom, and protection to civil defense teams, emergency responders, church leaders, and neighbors who are rescuing the stranded and distributing aid. Provide clean drinking water, food, safe shelter, and medical care to all who have been displaced, and comfort those who are anxious about their future and livelihoods. Move the hearts of national and local authorities to respond swiftly and justly, and stir Your church across the Dominican Republic to be a refuge of practical help, prayer, and gospel hope in this crisis. May many in these flooded areas come to know You as their refuge, provider, and Savior. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.”

Psalm 9:9 NKJV
