Emotional send-off for Kenya’s revered ex-PM Raila Odinga at state funeral

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a champion of democracy and justice, received an emotional state funeral in Nairobi attended by tens of thousands, including regional leaders. His week of mourning, following his death at 80 in India, featured tributes and symbols of grief but was marred by tragic stampedes and clashes that resulted in casualties. Odinga’s legacy, celebrated by leaders and citizens alike, emphasized sacrifice, resilience, and service, with calls to continue his fight for justice, unity, and peace as he was brought to his political stronghold for the final viewing and burial.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly ABBA, You are a God of solace and comfort. You rejoice with those who rejoice and grieve with those who grieve. In Jesus’ name, I ask that You console the family of Raila Odinga and all those who are mourning the loss of the former prime minister. Lord, I pray that Raila found favor in Your sight and that You have prepared a place for him in Your Heavenly Kingdom. Holy Spirit, help the people of Kenya to carry on Odinga’s legacy of pursuing unity, justice, and peace. Give them the strength and the courage to carry out the vision You placed in Raila, that You may gather and protect Your people in Kenya. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
