Jonah 4:6 shows the tender kindness of God. Even while Jonah was frustrated and pouting, God reached down to make him comfortable. It proves that God’s provision isn’t always based on our perfect attitude, but on His perfect character. This prayer is your Moment of Refreshment. You are acknowledging that every bit of “shade” in your life is a gift from a Father who wants you to endure. Notice that God “prepared” the plant. God is often working ahead of your stress to provide a comfort you didn’t even know you needed. Look for the “small plants” today—a kind word, a moment of rest, or a sudden relief. Jonah was “very grateful” for the plant. Sometimes we wait for the “big” miracle to be thankful, but joy is found in appreciating the temporary shade God provides during the journey.
Let’s Pray
Abba Father, hear my cry. You know my heart completely and understand every hidden misery. When I am overwhelmed by emotional pain or the heat of life’s trials, I thank You for being the God who prepares a place of relief for me. Lift me above the waters of despair and do not let my spirit fade. You are my strength and my joy, and Your presence is the only refreshment that truly heals. Thank You, Lord, for the “plants” of mercy You grow over my life to shield me from distress. I am grateful for the Holy Spirit, my Comforter, who brings peace deep within my soul. Even in the presence of my enemies, You prepare a table for me and anoint my head with oil (Psalm 23:5). You turn my mourning into dancing and clothe me with gladness, replacing the ashes of my past with Your beauty and splendor (Psalm 30:11). As I walk through this day, shield me from every distressing spirit and troubling thought. Deliver me from the shadows and keep me whole. Because I know You care for me, I cast all my anxiety and worries on You, O Lord (1 Peter 5:7). I refuse to be overcome by my struggles because Your mighty hand is my refuge. You are the Good Shepherd who provides for my every need and guards my mind with a peace that surpasses all understanding. I am very grateful for Your provision. Like an oak of righteousness, I stand as a display of Your splendor (Isaiah 61:3). It is out of Your sweet favor that You provide me with comfort that I enjoy, and from You, my joy overflows with strength. Thank You, Father. All praise to the One who has redeemed me from distress and filled my heart with joy. ”Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!” Amen, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant.”
