Many people question their purposes, why they exist, and what they are supposed to do here on this earth. Either they have never thought about it, figured it out, or have lost sight of it. Many therefore follow the patterns laid out by society: going to school, getting a job, getting married, having children and grandchildren, repeating in the same pattern, retiring rich. Is that all there is to life on this earth?

Revelations 4:11 (KJV) says,

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

The Scripture states that all things were created for the pleasure of God – the One who created us. God created us for Himself, not for us. God is indeed very good and kind. He has done, He does and will do many amazing things for and through us. However, He did not create us for our self-pleasure and gratification. Which vessel can think the Potter made it for its own sake?

It may do things out of its portion without knowing what the vessel was made for. Have you seen people drinking from a plate or putting flowers in a teapot? It might work, but it’s not optimal, as it doesn’t serve its intended purpose. Only the Potter knew why He has made the vessel – fearfully and wonderfully and adorned it with all His beauty. Only the Potter can then use the vessel according to its intended purpose, in its designated place and time. Also, only the Potter can tell when, where, and how the vessel needs to be. It’s actually about “being” instead of “doing,” because the vessel cannot fill itself. The vessel needs help even to get filled with what it needs to carry forth. Eventually, who will enjoy having the vessel filled with the correct material and serving its functions well in its space? The vessel would, but it would not be the only one.

Do you want to be the vessel carrying the right content and serving the proper functions at the right place and time, or do you prefer to be out of place and, perhaps, out of order? The choice is yours to make.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. – 2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV
