Somalia Faces Worsening Hunger as Drought Deepens Humanitarian Crisis

Somalia’s humanitarian crisis is rapidly worsening as prolonged drought, failed harvests, and livestock losses push millions toward severe hunger and malnutrition. Around 6.5 million people are facing high levels of food insecurity, with nearly 2 million already in Emergency conditions and at risk of famine if assistance does not increase. Rising food prices, mass displacement, and collapsing livelihoods are stretching families beyond their limits, while funding shortfalls threaten to cut lifesaving food and nutrition programs.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, we bring before You the people of Somalia who are watching their crops wither, their animals die, and their families grow weaker from hunger. You see every mother who has nothing left to cook, every father searching for work or water, and every child whose body is showing the signs of malnutrition—have mercy on them, O God. Send timely rains to restore the land, protect wells and water sources, and open safe pathways for food, medical care, and nutrition support to reach every community in need. Stir the hearts of governments, donors, and Your church around the world to respond generously and urgently so that no one is left to starve in silence. Strengthen believers, local leaders, and humanitarian workers in Somalia; fill them with courage, compassion, and wisdom as they serve in hard places, and let many come to know You as their Provider and Good Shepherd. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.

“He gives food to the hungry. And to those who fear Him He will ever be mindful of His covenant.”

Psalm 111:5 NKJV
