Spain Braces for Sudden Heat and Tropical Nights

On May 17, 2026, Spanish media reported that after days of cold rain, storms, and even late-season snow in some areas, Spain is now expected to see a sharp swing toward intense heat, with temperatures in parts of the country forecast to exceed 34°C in the coming week and the first “tropical nights” (when temperatures stay above 20°C) likely in some regions. Forecasters warn that this sudden shift could put extra strain on elderly people, those with health problems, outdoor workers, and families living in urban areas without good ventilation or air conditioning, especially if warm nights make it hard for people to rest and recover.

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, we lift up the people of Spain as they face a sudden change from cold, wet weather to a burst of early summer heat and tropical nights. You know the elderly who sleep poorly in small hot apartments, the workers who will labor under the sun, and the families who worry about their children and loved ones as temperatures rise—have mercy on them, O God. We ask that You would protect those most at risk from heat stress, give local authorities and health services wisdom and alertness, and inspire practical acts of love from neighbors, churches, and communities: opening windows and doors, sharing fans and water, checking on the lonely and vulnerable, and making sure no one suffers in silence. Use this unusual weather to awaken many hearts in Spain to their need for the shade of Your presence, and to remind Your people to be “springs of water” in dry places—offering prayer, hospitality, and the hope of the gospel to those around them. In Your name, Jesus, Amen.

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I the Lord will hear them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys.”

Isaiah 41:17–18 NKJV
