The Debt of Love
At the heart of the Christian faith lies a profound exchange: a debt we could not pay was met by a Savior who owed nothing. While the “wages of sin is death,” the heart of the Father has always been focused on restoration and life. He takes no pleasure in the loss of a soul, but instead provides the ultimate sacrifice so that we might turn and live. In this message, we reflect on the immense cost of our redemption. By looking through the lens of the Passion, we see how Christ was stripped and wounded—much like the traveler in the Parable of the Good Samaritan—bearing the weight of our transgressions in His own body. Yet, through this “robbery” of His life, He purchased something eternal: a free, all-access invitation to grace for all who believe. Join us as we explore how the blood of the Lamb covered every expense of our past, making a way for us to stand righteously before God, healed by His stripes and redeemed by His love.
The Wages of Sin and the Gift of Grace
The debt of humanity was one we could not pay ourselves. As Scripture reminds us, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Yet, our Creator takes no pleasure in the death of a sinner, but rather desires that all would turn and live (Ezekiel 18:32). Out of this profound love, God provided the sacrifice Himself, offering His only begotten Son to bridge the gap between our iniquity and His holiness.
The Divine “Robbery”: Christ in the Hands of Humanity
In a striking parallel to the Parable of the Good Samaritan, we see the experience of Christ during His Passion. Just as the traveler was stripped, wounded, and left for dead by thieves (Luke 10:30), Jesus was stripped of His garments, beaten, and forsaken by those He came to save. In our sin, we effectively “robbed” Him of His comfort and His life.
Yet, even in the darkness of the crucifixion, grace appeared. Just as the Samaritan showed mercy, a man named Joseph of Arimathea stepped forward with courage. He honored the body of Jesus, ensuring a dignified burial and fulfilling the requirements of the Law (John 19:38-40).
The Bride Price and the VIP Invitation
Christ did not just die to settle a debt; He died to win a Bride—the Church. His blood was the “bride price,” a sacred payment that secured our redemption. Today, the Bridegroom offers us a VIP invitation to eternal life. This ticket was not cheap—it was purchased at the highest cost imaginable—yet it is offered to us entirely for free (Isaiah 55:1).
We receive this invitation not by our own works, but by grace through faith. All expenses—our past, our guilt, and our shame—have been fully covered by the blood of the Lamb.
Jesus Christ has become our ultimate sin offering, eliminating the need for us to slaughter young bulls, rams, or goats. The Lamb of God has shed His blood for us, securing eternal redemption and remission of sins. It is finished—no more blood sacrifices are necessary. Christ laid down His life and paid the price on the cross, for you, for me, and for the entire world (Leviticus 4:1-3).
“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” (Revelation 19:6-7 KJV)
The Victory of the King
Though the world mocked Him, placing a sign that read “King of the Jews” as a taunt, they did not realize they were crowning the Savior of the world. As 1 Peter 2:22-24 affirms, He did not sin, yet He bore our sins in His own body on the tree. He endured the suffering so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. Our victory is in Him because He has conquered sin, death, and curses and bears our sickness, pain, and burdens for us. (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Having fought our battle on our behalf and won. He was crowned King of Glory following His resurrection from death. “Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle… The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.” (Psalm 24:8, 10)
By His stripes, we are healed. Today, we join the heavenly hosts in proclaiming: “Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God” (Revelation 19:1).
