This prayer captures the Theology of Survival. Habakkuk looks at a terrifying army and says, “Wait—my God is eternal, therefore we shall not die.” He uses God’s nature as a shield for his own life. The prayer expands this into a “Vow of Vigor.” We acknowledge that because God is our Rock, our life is not fragile. The “mark of correction” is a beautiful addition—it suggests that God cares enough about us to keep us on the right path. We aren’t just drifting; we are being steered by the One who existed before time began.
Let’s Pray
O Lord my God, my Holy One, You are from everlasting. You reigned before the foundation of the world and will remain long after the heavens and earth pass away. Because my Redeemer lives, my life is secured in Your hand. I believe Your Word: I shall not die, but live to declare Your mighty deeds! I decree that no sickness, plague, or weapon shall cut my life short. Like Job, I will live a full age, to the fullness, and like the eagle, my strength will be renewed. I will run and not grow weary; I will walk and not faint, for You are my Mighty Tower. O Rock of Ages, You have set my feet on solid ground and given me the agility to walk on dangerous soil without slipping. I stand firm on Your Word, carrying Your banner of truth. I thank You for Your “mark of correction”—thank You for the discipline that guides me back when I stray. Grant me the grace to recognize and listen to Your voice. By Your Spirit, give me wisdom; through Your Word, give me counsel. O God, may Your name be exalted forever. In the name of Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.
— Habakkuk 1:11 NKJV
“Are You not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O Lord, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction.”
