Sri Lanka is still reeling from the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, which brought unprecedented rainfall that triggered deadly landslides in the central highlands and caused rivers to overflow, flooding towns across the country. At least 212 people have been killed, thousands more have been displaced, and key roads and bridges remain destroyed or blocked, leaving many communities isolated and hard to reach. The military and emergency services are struggling to reach stranded families, airlifting people from compromised dams and relocating about 2,000 residents to safer areas as damaged infrastructure and lingering floodwaters slow relief efforts.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, we lift up the people of Sri Lanka who are mourning loved ones and trying to rebuild their lives after Cyclone Ditwah. You see every family who has lost a home, every village cut off by floodwaters and landslides, and every person waiting for rescue or aid—have mercy on them, O God. Strengthen rescue teams, local authorities, churches, and neighbors who are working tirelessly to find the missing, repair roads, and provide shelter, food, and clean water. Protect those who are still in danger from unstable slopes, damaged dams, and contaminated water sources, and grant wisdom to leaders as they plan long-term recovery and rebuilding. May many in Sri Lanka experience Your comfort in their grief and discover You as their refuge, provider, and sure foundation when everything else is shaken. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.
