Nearly 170 people have been killed in a large-scale attack in South Sudan’s Ruweng Administrative Area, in one of the deadliest incidents of violence reported this year. The assault, which local officials linked to intercommunal and politically driven tensions, comes on top of an already severe displacement crisis that has seen millions uprooted by conflict and flooding across the country. Humanitarian agencies warn that repeated attacks, combined with climate shocks and limited services in overcrowded sites, are stretching communities and aid systems beyond their limits.
Let’s Pray:
Lord Jesus, we bring before You the people of South Sudan, and especially the families in Ruweng who are grieving loved ones after this horrific attack. You see every home that has been emptied by violence, every survivor who carries deep trauma, and every child now left without parents or protection—have mercy on them, O God. Comfort those who mourn, surround the wounded and displaced with Your presence, and open the way for medical care, food, shelter, and protection to reach all those in danger. Restrain those who plan or carry out further violence; move the hearts of community leaders, government officials, and armed groups to choose reconciliation, justice, and peace instead of revenge. Strengthen Your church and humanitarian workers in South Sudan to be instruments of Your compassion and healing, and let many in this land encounter You as their Refuge and Prince of Peace. In Your mighty name, Jesus, Amen.
