Precious sacrifices

As we read through Exodus, we may wonder, “Okay, how does this apply to my situation? What can I learn from this part of the Scripture?” Let’s use this portion of passage as an example.

“The 100 talents of silver were used to cast the bases for the sanctuary and for the curtain—100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent for each base. They used the 1,775 shekels to make the hooks for the posts, to overlay the tops of the posts, and to make their bands. The bronze from the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels. They used it to make the bases for the entrance to the tent of meeting, the bronze altar with its bronze grating and all its utensils, the bases for the surrounding courtyard and those for its entrance and all the tent pegs for the tabernacle and those for the surrounding courtyard.” (Exodus 38:27-31)

This text put me in awe of how meticulous the God we serve is.  Remember, that He asked the Israelites to offer these articles to Him to make the tabernacle? He did not only notice but also recorded how many talents and shekels the gold, silver, and bronze were gathered and what they were used for. Pay attention to what the silver and bronze were used for. They were used to make the hooks, bands, bases for the entrance to the tent, tent pegs, etc. Easily put, they were not in noticeable positions. We can easily overlook these small articles, but our God doesn’t. Although these hooks, pegs, or bands cannot be easily spotted, they were crucial for the tabernacle to be held in place.

Let’s reflect on our lives today. How often do we feel that our sacrifices and roles are insignificant, unnoticeable, or overlooked? We thought we had offered this precious gold, silver, and bronze, but no one seems to pay attention. Today, I want to remind ourselves of these four points:

  1. Anything we do, offer, or give to God must be only out of love for Him, not to earn the favor or praises of men.
  2. God knows where best to put our offering and sacrifice.
  3. Though it may be unnoticeable, God pays attention and records our sacrifices.
  4. Let’s trust in His arrangement. Our sacrifice and offering will never be wasted in God’s hands. Instead, God will ensure that it plays a role in His temple, the body of Christ.

Today, I want to extend the same invitation as Paul did, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1). Will you willingly and joyfully offer your body as a living sacrifice to the One and only Recipient, God, no matter how it may seem in the eyes of men, and trust that He will make it beautiful in His hands?
