This prayer bridges the gap between The Prophet’s Question and The Savior’s Answer. While Habakkuk asks, “Why?” Regarding the violence he sees, our prayer moves toward the “Who”—the One who is merciful and faithful. It acknowledges a profound truth: we cannot fix the “plundering and violence” of the world until we acknowledge the “iniquities exposed” in our own hearts. By asking God to “speak peace,” we are recognizing that His voice is the only thing powerful enough to calm the “mighty storm” of human conflict.
Let’s Pray
Gracious and Faithful Lord, nothing in my life is hidden from Your sight. You see the iniquity and trouble that surround me, and You see the sins within my own heart. In a world of unrest, I confess that You are my only refuge. Lord, look upon a world weary of strife and contention. As wars and violence rise like a storm, I ask for Your intervention. Speak Your peace into our land and forgive the trespasses that have led us to this chaos. Deliver us from our afflictions, for You are slow to anger and abounding in mercy. My eyes are tired of witnessing loss, and my heart is faint from the noise of war. Come swiftly to our aid! Remember the work of salvation You completed on the cross and restore that victory to our broken world today. Save us, Lord, and grant us Your deep peace. Turn our lament into songs of victory, that we may praise Your majestic name forevermore. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
— Habakkuk 1:3 NKJV
“Why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises.”
