On January 8, 2026, Iran experienced a complete nationwide internet shutdown as unprecedented pro-democracy protests swept across major cities, with particularly massive demonstrations in Tehran. Authorities cut off internet access as reports surfaced of burning government buildings, violent clashes, and escalating casualties. The blackout has isolated Iran from the world, preventing international communication and blocking documentation of events. This 12th day of protests represents the largest demonstrations, with over 80 million people having viewed activist Reza Pahlavi’s call to action on Instagram before connectivity was severed.
Let’s Pray:
Almighty God, Creator of Truth and Justice, we lift our hearts and voices for the people of Iran who cry out for freedom and dignity. In the darkness created by the internet blackout, we know Your light still shines. We pray for the courage of those standing against oppression, and for their safety as they face an increasingly violent crackdown.
Lord, we intercede for:
● The brave protesters: Protect them from harm and grant them boldness to continue their peaceful resistance to tyranny.
● Those silenced: Help the world bear witness to what is happening, and loosen the grip of censorship that seeks to hide the truth.
● Families separated by fear: Reunite those torn apart by violence and fear, and comfort all who are grieving lost loved ones.
● A future of freedom: Plant seeds of lasting change that will result in a government that respects the dignity and freedom of all Iranians.
● The powerless: We ask that You would lift up the vulnerable and that justice might prevail over oppression.
Let Your kingdom come in Iran, and let Your will be done. May those who cry out for freedom soon find it. Amen.
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
